VR Hire Exeter

An 825-seat conference suite at junction 30 of the M5, a cathedral with six hireable spaces, and a country house in university parkland. Exeter anchors the South West and gets served far less often than it should.

Local knowledge

We know Exeter's venues

The historic core is bollard-controlled and pedestrianised, and the city genuinely runs on Park & Ride rather than expecting you to find a space. The pinch points are the Exe Bridges gyratory and junctions 29 and 30 of the M5, both of which reward local timing. It's a compact city and none of this is difficult — it simply needs someone who has done it before rather than someone reading a postcode into a satnav.

Sandy Park does most of the heavy lifting: the Exeter Suite seats 825 theatre-style with a Marriott attached, and it sits at junction 30 rather than in the city, which means parking and level access. Chiefs match days block it entirely, so those get checked first. In the centre, RAMM's Grade II galleries take receptions to 500 and the Corn Exchange offers a 500-capacity auditorium — both of them inside the bollards, both perfectly workable with the right window.

Rooms we work in around Exeter and Devon. Sandy Park sits at the motorway junction rather than in the city, and Chiefs fixtures close it entirely — both worth factoring in.

Travel & booking

The practical bit

Travel

Exeter and the immediate area have travel included, with wider Devon itemised plainly. City-centre bookings get a loading window inside the bollarded core, and Sandy Park jobs get checked against the rugby calendar.

Booking

One of the more open diaries we keep, which is what being underserved looks like. Six weeks for December, though the remainder of the year the South West has genuine availability.

Exeter FAQs

Good questions, straight answers

Do you really cover Devon, or is it a listing?
We come. The South West has been underserved by event suppliers for years, largely because the driving is real. We price it honestly and schedule it properly rather than quoting as though Exeter were an hour from Bristol.
How does the pedestrianised core affect a city-centre event?
It sets the loading window. The historic centre is bollard-controlled and the city runs on Park & Ride, so we agree a slot, unload inside it, and park outside the core for the duration.
What's the simplest large venue?
Sandy Park at junction 30 — 825 in the Exeter Suite, level access, its own parking and a hotel attached. Just check the Chiefs fixture list first, because match days close it completely.
How far into Devon and Cornwall do you go?
Torquay, Newton Abbot, Barnstaple, Tiverton and Honiton are all bookable, and Cornwall is genuinely possible with enough notice. The distance goes on the quote rather than into a vague surcharge.
What notice do you need this far west?
Reckon on three weeks, six in December. The drive is the reason — we'd rather build the journey into the plan than compress the setup at the other end.
