VR Hire Sunderland

A 49,000-seat stadium with sixty event spaces beside it, a restored fire station turned 550-seat auditorium, and a seafront hotel ballroom at Roker. Wearside has quietly become one of the easiest places in the North East to run an event.

Local knowledge

We know Sunderland's venues

Stadium Park is the centre of gravity. The Stadium of Light runs more than sixty event spaces with around 1,100 free parking places, the Beacon of Light next door handles conferences and exhibitions, and the Hilton Garden Inn adjoins the ground with three private suites. For a supplier that combination — level access, lifts, enormous parking, all on one site — is close to ideal, and it means a four-station build here takes less setting up than a two-station build in a city centre.

There's a routing detail that saves money and it's ours to get right, not yours. Sunderland itself sits in no charging clean air zone, but the Tyneside CAZ covers Newcastle and Gateshead — so a van routed down the A1 and A167 through Newcastle picks up a daily charge that the coastal A19 approach avoids entirely. We take the A19. It's the sort of thing that only matters if someone's paying attention to it, which is rather the point of using a supplier who treats the North East as home rather than a long drive.

Travel & booking

The practical bit

Travel

Wearside travel is included, routed via the A19 so the Tyneside Clean Air Zone never enters the picture. Stadium Park load-ins are about as straightforward as England offers — park beside the door and roll the cases in.

Booking

Sunderland books more calmly than Newcastle across the water. December still wants six weeks for a Friday; the rest of the year a fortnight is genuinely enough.

Sunderland FAQs

Good questions, straight answers

Is Sunderland inside a clean air charging zone?
No. The Tyneside CAZ covers Newcastle and Gateshead, not Wearside — and we route in via the coastal A19 rather than down through Newcastle, so no charge arises on your job at all.
What's the easiest venue for a large Sunderland event?
Stadium Park, comfortably. Sixty-plus spaces at the Stadium of Light, the Beacon next door, around 1,100 free parking spaces and level access throughout. It's one of the most supplier-friendly sites in the North East.
Do you actually cover Wearside, or travel up for it?
The North East is standard ground for us, not an away fixture. Sunderland travel is included, and Durham, South Shields, Hartlepool and Northumberland carry honest itemised mileage rather than a padded distance charge.
Can you run something at a seafront venue at Roker?
Yes — the Roker Hotel's ballroom takes 300 and the sea view does no harm at all. Coastal venues just need cover from direct weather for the kit, which any indoor room provides.
How far ahead should we book?
A fortnight for most dates. Six weeks ahead for a December Friday, and Sunderland home fixtures are worth checking if your event is anywhere in Stadium Park that weekend.
