VR Hire Gateshead

A concert hall seating 1,640 on the Quayside, a contemporary art gallery in a converted flour mill, and a riverside Hilton three hundred metres from both. Gateshead's south bank has become the North East's cultural quarter.

Local knowledge

We know Gateshead's venues

The Tyne Bridge restoration governs Quayside logistics right now. It's running one lane each way through 2026 with periodic overnight full closures, and scaffolding goes onto the deck in autumn 2026 — so any delivery to the south bank routes via the Swing or Redheugh bridges instead, with contingency built in. It's the sort of live constraint that changes month to month, which is exactly why we check it rather than assume last time still applies.

The venues are excellent. The Glasshouse — renamed from Sage Gateshead in 2024, though the halls are still Sage One and Sage Two and the old web domain still resolves, which confuses listings badly — offers 1,640 and 600 seats respectively. BALTIC's Level 1 takes 250 for a reception, and the Hilton sits within a short walk of both. Gateshead International Stadium covers the larger festival and expo end.

Travel & booking

The practical bit

Travel

Gateshead and Tyneside attract no travel cost, Clean Air Zone included. Quayside jobs route via the Swing or Redheugh bridges while the Tyne Bridge restoration continues, with the current position checked each time.

Booking

The Glasshouse's own programme shapes availability more than the party season does. Team Valley and the stadium are far more flexible, and Six weeks through December as everywhere.

Gateshead FAQs

Good questions, straight answers

How do the Tyne Bridge works affect access?
Quayside deliveries route via the Swing or Redheugh bridges instead. The restoration is running one lane each way through 2026 with occasional overnight closures and scaffolding due on the deck in autumn, so we check the current state rather than assuming.
Which name should we search for — Sage or The Glasshouse?
The Glasshouse, since 2024. The halls are still called Sage One and Sage Two and the old domain still resolves, which makes this one of the more confusing venue renames in the country.
Does the Tyneside Clean Air Zone apply?
It covers Newcastle and Gateshead, and our vehicles are compliant, so nothing reaches your quote. It's the reason a Sunderland job routes down the A19 instead, but on the south bank it's simply part of the cost of working here.
Can you run an event at BALTIC?
Yes — Level 1 takes 250 for a reception or 160 seated, with a riverside view that does a lot of the work. Floor protection gets agreed with their team in advance as with any gallery.
Is this different from booking your Newcastle service?
Same crew, same kit. The south bank simply has the cultural venues and, at Team Valley, easier parking than anything across the river.
