The High Street is steep, cobbled and pedestrianised — genuinely one of the least van-friendly streets in the South East — so town-centre get-ins run via the side streets with a drop point agreed beforehand. The other constant is the A3 through Guildford, a chronic bottleneck that we time arrivals around rather than hope our way through. Neither is a barrier; both reward somebody having thought about it before loading the vehicle.

G Live handles the larger jobs with a main hall for a thousand and thirteen meeting rooms alongside. The cathedral offers its nave for up to a thousand, and separately runs Seasons — a purpose-built events building in the grounds that is a quite different proposition from hiring the cathedral itself, and worth being precise about when you enquire. Up at Stag Hill the university's lecture theatres and meeting venues come with campus parking attached.
