VR Hire Lancaster

An Edwardian civic hall taking 800 theatre-style, a standalone conference centre with eighteen meeting rooms three minutes from the M6, and an arts venue beside the castle. Lancaster is compact, historic and genuinely easy to work in.

Local knowledge

We know Lancaster's venues

Nearly all access runs off junctions 33 or 34 of the M6, which keeps things simple — until you reach the medieval city grid, which is narrow, largely one-way, and crossed by only two bridges over the Lune. Those two, Greyhound and Skerton, run one-way in opposite directions, so getting from one bank to the other is a specific route rather than a turn. We plan it; it takes thirty seconds and saves considerably more.

Worth being straight about scale: Lancaster has no purpose-built exhibition hall, and the Ashton Hall in the Town Hall is the largest single room in the city at 800 theatre or 250 dining. For most corporate events that's ample. Lancaster House Hotel offers eighteen meeting rooms as a proper standalone conference centre near the motorway, and the university's twelve-plus campus venues take up to 600 during vacations.

Travel & booking

The practical bit

Travel

Nothing is added for travel across Lancaster and north Lancashire. Access runs off M6 junctions 33 and 34, with the Lune crossing chosen deliberately — the two central bridges run one-way in opposite directions.

Booking

Graduation weeks plus December are the crunch weeks. Away from them Lancaster is open, and the university's vacation availability is the best-value large space in the north of the county.

Lancaster FAQs

Good questions, straight answers

What's the biggest event possible in Lancaster?
Ashton Hall at 800 theatre-style or 250 dining — the largest single room in the city, since there's no purpose-built exhibition hall here. For anything bigger we'd suggest the university campus during a vacation, or Preston down the M6.
Why do the bridges matter?
There are only two central crossings of the Lune and they run one-way in opposite directions, so moving between banks is a planned route rather than a turn. It's a thirty-second check that saves a wrong-side detour.
Is the campus available outside term?
Yes — twelve-plus venues taking up to 600 during vacations, with campus parking. It's the easiest large-scale option in the district when the timing works.
Do you cover the Lakes and Morecambe Bay?
Morecambe, Carnforth, Kendal, Windermere and Barrow are all bookable, the journey out costed separately. The Lakes are further than they look on a map, and we price them accordingly.
How long ahead is wise?
A fortnight normally; December wants six. Graduation weeks fill the city entirely, so those are worth avoiding if you can.
Can we book the campus during term?
Some spaces, yes, but the twelve-plus venues taking up to 600 are vacation-dependent. In term time Lancaster House Hotel near junction 33 is the more reliable option for a larger group.
