Preston's event map has shifted in recent years. With the Guild Hall's main auditoria still out of action pending the council's decision, the city's larger gatherings have moved to sites that own their own parking: Deepdale's suites, the University of Lancashire campus a short walk from the station, and the run of hotels up Garstang Road. For a supplier arriving with a loaded van that's genuinely good news — level service access and a space to unload beat a picturesque town-centre address every time.

The other Preston advantage is position. Sat where the M6, M55 and M65 meet, it's the natural base for anything happening across Lancashire, and there's no clean-air or congestion charge anywhere in the city to pass on.
