Steep Hill is a tourist attraction and an absolute barrier. Vans reach the uphill cathedral quarter via Nettleham Road or Yarborough Road and no other way — Michaelgate and Steep Hill itself are pedestrian and effectively impassable with anything on wheels. Down in the lower city the constraint is different: the High Street level crossings still bring traffic to a complete halt when the barriers come down, which they do often enough to matter for a timed load-in.
The Lincolnshire Showground handles the large jobs. The EPIC Centre offers 1,836 square metres on the ground floor and scales from a couple of people to 1,650, with parking measured in acres — it sits about ten minutes out on the A15, which is a small price for that much room. In the city, the Brayford waterfront hotels and Bishop Grosseteste's two theatres cover most other briefs comfortably.

No travel charge applies anywhere across Lincoln and the immediate county. Uphill jobs are routed via Nettleham or Yarborough Road as a matter of course, and lower-city arrivals allow for the level crossings that periodically stop everything.
