VR Hire Lincoln

This city divides itself into uphill and downhill, and the distinction decides everything about getting equipment to a venue. The cathedral quarter, the Brayford waterfront and a showground with 1,800 square metres — all covered, all planned differently.

Local knowledge

We know Lincoln's venues

Steep Hill is a tourist attraction and an absolute barrier. Vans reach the uphill cathedral quarter via Nettleham Road or Yarborough Road and no other way — Michaelgate and Steep Hill itself are pedestrian and effectively impassable with anything on wheels. Down in the lower city the constraint is different: the High Street level crossings still bring traffic to a complete halt when the barriers come down, which they do often enough to matter for a timed load-in.

The Lincolnshire Showground handles the large jobs. The EPIC Centre offers 1,836 square metres on the ground floor and scales from a couple of people to 1,650, with parking measured in acres — it sits about ten minutes out on the A15, which is a small price for that much room. In the city, the Brayford waterfront hotels and Bishop Grosseteste's two theatres cover most other briefs comfortably.

Travel & booking

The practical bit

Travel

No travel charge applies anywhere across Lincoln and the immediate county. Uphill jobs are routed via Nettleham or Yarborough Road as a matter of course, and lower-city arrivals allow for the level crossings that periodically stop everything.

Booking

The county show calendar and December shape this diary. Outside them Lincoln books easily, and the showground's availability is better than its size would suggest.

Lincoln FAQs

Good questions, straight answers

Can you get equipment up to the cathedral quarter?
Yes, by the only two routes that work — Nettleham Road or Yarborough Road. Steep Hill and Michaelgate are pedestrian and genuinely impassable with a loaded trolley, so the approach gets settled before the day rather than attempted on it.
Do the level crossings really cause delays?
They do. The High Street crossings stop the lower city dead when the barriers drop, and often enough to matter. We build the margin into the arrival time rather than gambling on the timetable.
What's the biggest event you could run in Lincoln?
The showground, without question — the EPIC Centre alone offers 1,836 square metres and scales to 1,650 people, with acres of parking. It's ten minutes out on the A15 and worth every one of them for a large build.
Do you cover the wider county?
Newark, Grantham, Boston, Gainsborough and up to Scunthorpe are all standard runs, with mileage shown plainly. Lincolnshire is a big county and we price the driving honestly.
What notice is sensible?
Two weeks for most dates, six for December. Showground event weeks fill local hotels, so if your date coincides with a county show it's worth knowing early.
Can you work around the level crossings?
We plan for them. The High Street crossings stop the lower city regularly enough to matter, so arrival times carry a margin rather than assuming a clear run at the barriers.
