The Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse is the anchor: 2,600 square metres, capacity for three thousand, and around four thousand free parking spaces around it. For a multi-station build with a large guest list, that combination of floor space and parking makes it one of the easiest venues in the South West to work in. The town's Regency rooms — the Pittville Pump Room, the Town Hall on Imperial Square, the Queens on the Promenade — offer the opposite trade: beautiful, listed, and tighter to load into, which we plan for rather than discover.

Festival week in March reorganises the town entirely. The A435 southbound near the racecourse closes in timed blocks, morning and evening, and Boots Corner where Clarence Street meets North Street shuts to cars for four consecutive days. It is not a week to schedule an unrelated event in Cheltenham, and we'll say so plainly if your date lands in it. The rest of the year the town is genuinely relaxed, with no charging clean-air zone and a corporate market punching well above its population.
