VR Hire Swindon

A railway museum whose Great Western Hall takes 750, a Grade II Art Deco hall for twelve hundred, and one of the busiest office corridors on the M4. Swindon's event rooms owe almost everything to Brunel.

Local knowledge

We know Swindon's venues

The County Ground sits directly on the Magic Roundabout — five mini-roundabouts arranged in a ring around a sixth, and genuinely disorienting for anyone approaching it with a loaded van for the first time. The trick is entering from the correct arm, because taking the wrong one means a full circuit and another attempt. We know which arm serves which entrance, minor until you've watched a driver go round three times.

STEAM is the venue people remember. It occupies the old Great Western railway works, and the Great Western Hall handles 750 with GWR-themed boardrooms alongside — a considerably better backdrop than another hotel suite. MECA's restored Art Deco hall covers the larger evening events, and out at junction 16 the DoubleTree offers twelve thousand square feet of meeting space with the parking that an M4-corridor venue takes for granted.

Travel & booking

The practical bit

Travel

Travel within Swindon and north Wiltshire is included in every quote. County Ground jobs are approached from the correct arm of the Magic Roundabout as a matter of routine, which saves more time than it sounds like it should.

Booking

An easy diary by South West standards. A December Friday wants six weeks' notice, and otherwise a fortnight generally secures both the date and the room you wanted.

Swindon FAQs

Good questions, straight answers

Is the Magic Roundabout as bad as people say?
For a first-timer with a van, yes. Five mini-roundabouts around a sixth, and the County Ground sits right on it — enter from the wrong arm and you're going round again. We know which arm serves the entrance, so it costs nothing.
What makes STEAM worth choosing?
It's a Victorian railway works rather than a function room, and the Great Western Hall takes 750. Guests remember where they were, which is not something anyone says about a hotel suite.
Where's the easiest build in Swindon?
The junction 16 hotels — level access, generous parking, no timed loading. Perfect for an M4-corridor office wanting something straightforward on a weekday afternoon.
Do you cover north Wiltshire and the Cotswold fringe?
Chippenham, Marlborough, Cirencester and out towards Newbury are all standard runs with any mileage set out clearly. Bath and Bristol are each under an hour.
What headcount suits an office event here?
Two stations handle 40 to 60 across an afternoon. The business-park units along the M4 corridor generally have the floor space for a full four-full build if the whole format appeals format.
What's MECA like as a venue?
A restored Grade II Art Deco hall taking around 1,200 — considerably more atmospheric than a conference suite, and central. It suits an evening event with a finals crowd particularly well.
