Why VR

Team building that suits a thinking city

Skill over spectacle

Edinburgh teams see through gimmicks quickly. Archery rewards a steady hand, sailing rewards a sharp mind, and the leaderboard rewards whoever's actually good — which is rarely who the office predicted.

Works in listed buildings

Georgian boardroom, converted bank hall, modern fintech floor — we've specced for all three. Stair-friendly cases and a pre-checked access plan mean the venue's age never limits the guest list.

Hosted start to finish

Rotations, scoring, finals, prize-giving — ours. Your job ends at the room booking and begins again at the acceptance speech.

The format

The office takeover, capital edition

Two hours from build to podium — timed around your floor's day, your building's access, and (in August) the Festival's schedule.

0:00 Access & build

Pre-checked route in — lift, stairs or Georgian landing — and stations up within the hour, quietly.

0:60 Scored rounds

Teams rotate through golf, archery and sailing. Points build on the leaderboard; alliances and betrayals form naturally.

1:45 The final

Top four head-to-head on the spectator screen. The sailing leg has decided more Edinburgh finals than any other round.

2:00 Prize-giving

Medals, photos, and a result the Exchange district will analyse like a fund performance review. Pack-down is ours.

How it plays in Edinburgh

Edinburgh's corporate map runs from the Exchange district's asset managers through the Quartermile's fintechs to the university's spin-out labs, and they share a team-building brief: something genuinely clever to compete at, nothing that requires performing. A scored tournament answers it — the competition is real, the barrier is nil, and the sailing round in particular rewards exactly the tactical patience this city produces in bulk.

Season matters here like nowhere else. In August your office may be the only bookable venue in EH1 — which is fine, because the tournament runs on your floor while the Fringe rages outside, and the finals make a superb warm-up for a team show outing. In winter, a 4pm start beats the early dark: rounds under the lights, finals at six, and George Street's bars a two-minute walk from the podium.

Edinburgh FAQs

Asked before every booking

Can you really set up in a listed New Town building?
Yes — it's signature Edinburgh work. We do an access check when you book, use stair-friendly cases where there's no lift, and protect floors properly. The grander the room, the better the finals photograph.
Is an August team event madness?
It's one of the best times to do it — the city's buzzing and your office becomes the calm centre of it. The practical bits (earlier booking, pre-arranged parking, defensive load-in times) are our problem, and we've solved them before.
Why sailing for an Edinburgh team?
Because it's the thinking-person's round: wind shifts, laylines, tactical patience. The city that runs half of Britain's money turns out to be exactly the demographic that treats a virtual regatta with terrifying seriousness.
Can we settle the score with our Glasgow office?
Gladly — the inter-city grudge match runs the same event on both sides of the M8 in one week, with a combined leaderboard and a declared champion office. Loser hosts the Christmas party.
What's the cost for a 20-person Edinburgh team?
From £495 for the 90-minute Energiser — kit, host, leaderboards and city travel included. Georgian staircases are carried free, though we may mention them afterwards.
